EarthStar Farm is a project of love, learning and our haven of peace (dar es salaam), dreamed up by Susan and Chad Waite. Located at the foot of Big Mountain in Whitefish, our farm was officially founded Thanksgiving week 2011 with festivity and gratitude. This has been an awesome and humbling leap into setting lifelong ideals into motion. In our current world, few things are as radical and game-changing as growing food naturally for ourselves and our communities. Be the Change you want to see!
After 30 years of raising our kids in the Seattle and SFBay areas, in 2011 we decided to shake up our lives and return to the simpler dreams of our early years. Our goal was to live in natural harmony with our planet, to become community organic food producers, and to create an ever-evolving regenerative integrated farm. We intended to demonstrate that anyone can take action to become more sustainable by simply leaving the empty chatter behind and choosing to walk the talk, either in big lifestyle ways or small daily choices. Responsible healthy stewardship of our beautiful Earth belongs to all of us. Humans must change their toxic habits. Every single person can make a difference, step by step, and that will help shift our global paradigm into healing, integrity, wellbeing, and positivity.
Susan grew up in East Africa, where wild abundant nature and the circle of life was up-close and personal every day. Chad spent his childhood summers planting and "managing" his family's veggie garden with his Dad on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
College sweethearts, Susan and Chad married over 40 years ago, and soon began growing healthy organic backyard vegetable and flower gardens with their young family. We raised our three children with the simple joy of being able to step outside into the family garden to harvest part of a meal. Throughout the decades, we found ourselves irresistibly drawn to local farmers’ markets on our family travels. From bustling Saturday produce tents in the heart of Paris to quiet hilltop village markets in Tuscany and Provence, modest Tahitian artisanal street vendors to the vibrant marketplaces of Kuala Lumpur, the local farmer's markets always signaled for us the happiest way to quickly immerse into another culture. When we established EarthStar Farm we proudly chose to join that global grassroots circle of small farmers growing food for their communities. In May 2013, we nervously and humbly set-up our first EarthStar Farm produce booth at Whitefish Farmers Market, selling eggs and some potted veggie-garden starts. The dream was launched!
EarthStar Farm is an integrated regenerative organic family farm in Whitefish, Montana. We are located at the foot of Big Mountain, tucked up against the foothill ranges of Glacier National Park and the North American Continental Divide. We naturally pasture raise our hardy Cormo sheep for luscious fine-wool yarn, our heritage-breed chickens for eggs, and we organically grow microgreens, edible flowers, heirloom tomatoes, select market vegetables, lavenders, some bouquet flowers, plus future fruits and nuts for our communities. We also proudly host a year-round outdoor Scandinavian-inspired nature-based preschool, called Foxtail Forskola, on EarthStar Farm. www.foxtailforskola.com
A full-circle small farm integrated with livestock can organically regenerate the soil, responsibly grow nourishing natural food for all, and help heal our planet.
